The following are the categories and their definitions :
Personality Base Categories
1. News Caster of the Year: A category designed for news anchor with a radio station with a news bulletin of more than 30 minutes and must have anchored the news for more than 6 months within the year under review. Its unisex and voting based.
2. Sports Show Host of the Year: A personality based award for outstanding sport show host. The said nominee must have hosted the program for more than 6 months within the year under consideration.
3. Uncovered Personality of the Year: The category focuses on one of the less thought about aspects in the Radio; the Producers. It is set to acknowledge the hard work they do behind the scenes.
4. Morning Show Host of the Year. A tenacious personality who command the airwaves in the morning qualifies for nomination. Programming within the hours of 5:30 am to 10:00am will be considered.
5. Mid-morning Host of the Year: A personality based category for on air programs airing within the hours of 9:30 am the Mid- day.
6. Blogger of the Year: A category created to reward the best blogger in the region. Here, critical attention will be paid originality of content, online traffic and social media followers and interactions.
7. Promoter of the Year: A personality based category for an off or on air personality contributing to bringing out eastern talent and music.
8. Eastern Diaspora: A voting based category for personalities who started radio or media work in the region and are today making strides outside the region.
9. Sales and Marketing Manager of the Year. One of the less focused area in media Awards Scheme. This category is created to bring into lime light the good work they do behind the scenes to get us to the right products when and where it's needed. Basis for decisions will include the number of LPM's the station has amongst others.
10. Entertainment Show Host of the year. Designed to reward a well-crafted content based entertainment program under the year inn review.
11. Talk Show Panelist of the Year. This is a new category introduced with the intention to reward talk show panelist on various programs including political shows, sports, entertainments and social programs.
12. Most Valuable Personality of the Year: This priceless category is designed as the top most award for the most valuable personality in the region's media fraternity. One must be on the "heart of the people" to be in this category
13. DJ of the Year: Set out to acknowledge radio D.J of the year.
14. Reporter of the Year: This is for the hard working reporters who gets the news rolling each day. Its design for the print and electronic media. Freelance Journalist can also take advantage of it.
15. Male Presenter of the Year: An outstanding Male on air personality within the year of assessment. Critical attention will be paid to style, listenership base and social media following.
16. Female Presenter of the Year: An outstanding Female on air personality within the year of assessment. Critical attention will be paid to style, listenership base and social media following.
17. Late Afternoon Show Host of the Year: Otherwise known as Drive Time is one of the four pillars of every radio station. The category is created to reward the best. Usual programs between the hours of 2pm - 6pm are considered drive time.
Station/Program Based Categories
18. News Program of the Year: This category is set to reward news program covering + 30 minutes. Segments in the news is a critical factor to getting nomination. It's voting based.
19. Sports Program of the Year: A more than an hour dedicated sport program qualifies for nomination. Critical attention will be paid to the sports crew and the number of segments as well.
20. Social Program of the Year: Social Program of the year cuts across all sectors including health, agriculture, religion etc.
21. Event of the Year: One of the few new category introduced. Set out to Reward the best event under the year in review.
22. Program of the Year: This category is designed to cover other programs hither to have not been covered in other categories. Specific mentions can be made to Religious Program of the Year, Educative Program of the Year, Health Program of the Year and Agricultural Program of the Year.
23. Station of the Year: A voting based category to acknowledge the best station in the year under review. Stations with more than half of the nominees qualifies to compete
Non-Voting Categories
1. ERMEA Signature Award: A non-voting based category for an outstanding personality contributing to the development of Media in the East.
